BBC Two to simulcast BBC Four launch

BBC Four's launch evening on March 2 will simulcast on BBC Two, it has been revealed.

"To celebrate the launch of this exciting new digital channel, BBC Two is giving viewers the chance to sample the highlights of its first night," a BBC spokeswoman told Digital Spy.

BBC Four will broadcast daily between 7pm and 1am, and on launch night, BBC Two will simulcast programming between 7pm and 11pm. Highlights of the first night include:
  • 19.00 - 19.55: The Man Who Destroyed Everything
    BBC Four explores the world of artist Michael Landy, who one year ago pulped all of his worldly goods in the name of art.
  • 20.40 - 21.50: Robert Hughes On Goya
    Critic and broadcaster Robert Hughes makes his first documentary on visual arts for five years, as he goes on the trail of the elusive Spanish painter whose terrifying images haunted Hughes’ dreams after his near-fatal car-crash in 1999.
  • 22.00 - 23.00: Surrealissimo - The Scandalous Success Of Salvador Dali
    Ewen Bremner, Katrin Cartlidge and Stephen Fry star in Surrealissimo, an inventive drama-documentary that brings to life the notorious ‘trial’ of Salvador Dali by his fellow surrealists. Written by Matthew Broughton, the supporting cast includes Vic Reeves, Mark Gatiss and Matt Lucas.
  • 23.30 - 00.00: BBC Four Sessions - Baaba Maal
    Senegal's Baaba Maal and his Dande Lenol band kick off a series of unique concerts, made specially for BBC Four, featuring Africa's greatest musicians, with an intimate performance in Islington's Union Chapel.
