MTV Networks UK & Ireland has unveiled a slate of new commissions for summer, showing its commitment to increase the level of original programming on its channels.
Fist Of Zen will premiere in July as part of the relaunch of the MTV-branded channels. The programme, from Monkey Kingdom, challenges groups of friends to complete a series of Sanchez-style tasks in total silence to win cash prizes.
Totally Jodie Marsh – Who’ll Take Her Up The Aisle? will also appear in July. The programme is being supported by a major on and offline advertising campaign. Viewers can see previews of the series on mtv.co.uk and have access to a ‘Jodie Cam’ on the website.
In-house production My Super Sweet UK, based on the popular US series, My Super Sweet 16, follows a group of young people across the UK as they plan parties that celebrate important milestones in their lives.
Tiger Aspect's Bedroom Diaries follows teens sexual and emotional relationships, and Living on the Edge from Lime Pictures, the makers of Hollyoaks, is a observational documentary following the spoilt lives of a group of young teens living in Alderley Edge, the WAG capital of the UK. Paul Kaye gets a second series of Strutter his late night, adult clip show.
In total MTVN UK has commissioned around 40 hours of original entertainment programming this year. Heather Jones, executive vice president creative & content and director of television, who commissioned the programmes said: "MTV has a fantastic track record for making some of the very best genre-defining entertainment programmes. Not only will our audience be able to enjoy watching them on the main channel but with our commitment to 360-degree commissioning, they will also be able to immerse themselves in the shows on every other platform."
