BBC calls halt to RDF commissions

The BBC will not commission any further programming from RDF Media until it receives clear assurances that an incident that presented the Queen in a misleading fashion cannot happen again.

RDF has admitted to providing the BBC with a misleading edit of a sequence which purported to show the Queen storming out of a photography session after becoming irritated with a request made by the photographer. No such incident occurred and it emerged that the footage was edited in the wrong order; what was assumed to be the Queen walking out of the session was in fact film of her on her way to the sitting.

In a statement, the BBC said:

"The BBC will commission a full and independent inquiry into the incident involving BBC One and the Queen. The report will be submitted by the Director-General to the BBC Trust in the Autumn. The findings of this inquiry will be made public.

"We will work with RDF to understand the steps they propose to ensure there is no chance of a repetition of the incident involving the Queen. Until that is clear and we have the findings of the independent inquiry, we will pause in commissioning any new programmes from them."
