Afternoon "Night and Day" slots axed

ITV has removed Night and Day from its thrice-weekly 5.05pm slot, the network announced today. The move means that from next week, the show will only be seen in a post-peak slot of 11pm on Thursdays.
The soap failed to make a significant impact in the teatime slot, averaging just 1m viewers and a 9% share, beaten by BBC Two's Weakest Link and Channel 4's Richard and Judy.
"Night and Day is a bold commission which has received widespread critical acclaim and we are very proud of it," said Tony Woods, head of continuing drama at ITV. "The series has already established itself as cult viewing for young adults and repositioning it with a first showing in the evening will build on its appeal."
The soap is commissioned to run for a further year.
