Nickelodeon is mulling plans to launch a "NickToons TV" channel in the UK, according to this week's Broadcast.
The station, which broadcasts Nickelodeon's home-made cartoons ('NickToons') around the clock, launched in the US on the first of the month, prompting execs at BSkyB and Viacom to consider a UK version.
Nicky Parkinson, Nickelodeon MD, said that the launch of the station would depend on approval from BSkyB and Viacom. "Nothing has been finalised," she told the publication. "However there is still sufficient room in the market to launch new channels for children."
Nickelodeon is the biggest pay TV kids station in the UK, with an average audience share of 0.7% for its main channel, and an 0.2% share for preschool channel Nick Jr.
