Four independent production companies are in the running to produce a new live Friday entertainment show for BBC Three.
BBC Three controller Danny Cohen expressed his desire to commission a Friday Night Live style show - as appeared on Channel 4 in the 80s and 90s - at MGEITF. Cohen's focus on entertainment is one of his moves to showcase new talent and attract young audiences to the channel.
According to Broadcast, Peep Show producers Objective Productions, Spoons creator Zeppotron, the BBC's own Comedy Unit and Have I Got News For You? producer Hat Trick are all being considered to produce the new entertainment show.
The original Friday Night Live, and its forerunner Saturday Night Live, were produced by LWT for Channel 4 between 1985 and 1988.
