George Michael has requested that footage of him discussing his fears over HIV be cut from a BBC documentary.
The singer was being interviewed by Stephen Fry for the upcoming TV show, where he is shown admitting that he has not taken a test for the infection for at least three years because he is worried it could turn out positive.
After thinking about the scenes, Michael asked producers if they could be left out of the programme Stephen Fry: HIV and Me, because he thought it would affect his former partner Anselmo Feleppa's family, who died from AIDS in 1995.
A spokesman for the star said: "On reflection, he felt it was too close and too personal a journey, and he asked for his contribution to be removed.
“It was too personal for Anselmo’s family to revisit.”
The BBC carried out his request and left out the footage from the show, where Fry is seen taking an HIV test himself.
