The former Doctor Who actress was warned that she would not be able to cope with playing a prostitute on the ITV2 drama, which is inspired by an online blog written by a real-life call girl.
"My closest friends were worried and concerned about what the nature of the show would do to my soul," Billie told Parkinson. "They were thinking: 'How could you be a part of that every day and come home and feel clean?'
"I didn't feel that clean for a while, it's quite full on and a complete alien world to me - it's hard to fathom."
Asked what her fiancé Laurence Fox thought about the role, she explained: "Well he hasn't seen any of it yet, he was aware that I was doing it but we didn't really talk about it in length!"
Parkinson airs at 11.20pm tonight on ITV1.
