Virgin 1: UK content will increase

Virgin 1 plans to increase the level of home grown content on the new channel over the next year.
Speaking at the channel's launch, programmes director Celia Taylor said that while the current level of overseas content was around 60%, she is aiming to increase the amount of UK originated content over time.
Jonathan Webb, Virgin Media TV's managing director, who was also at the launch, said: "We did a huge amount of research into what Virgin 1 should be and what people expected from Virgin. What came through was that people see [Virgin] as an incredibly strong British brand, and while it's global, they're very proud of its British routes. That came out loud and clear in what they want from the channel. I think it's really important that we have that British face and personality."
The channel, which launches on Monday, and has already made significant US acquisitions including The Riches, starring Minnie Driver and Eddie Izzard, and The Sarah Connor Chronicles, starring Lena Headey. Taylor added: "When you think about our two big dramas, they have well known British acting talent in them."
