Andrew Davies is to adapt Sarah Waters' Gothic ghost story Affinity for ITV1.
Affinity will be Waters' third piece to be adapted for TV; Tipping the Velvet was made into a three segment serial for BBC Two in 2002, and Fingersmith was similarly formatted for the channel in 2005.
ITV drama controller Sally Haynes said: "Both Andrew Davies and Sarah Waters are renowned and well-loved for their bold, atmospheric, unique period pieces. The combination of supernatural mystery, Sapphic romance and a disturbing twist to the tale give this an entirely different flavour to the typical costume drama, one we're proud to have on our slate."
The adaptation is a Box TV / Cité-Amérique co-production for ITV in association with Movie Central, Showcase and The Movie Network.
