'Doctor Who' leads TV Awards nominees
Doctor Who has picked up three nominations at the National TV Awards for the third consecutive year.

The hit show faces competition from Life On Mars, The Bill and Shameless in the Most Popular Drama category.

David Tennant has been shortlisted for Most Popular Actor for the third time, where he will compete against Coronation Street's Antony Cotton, Hollyoaks' James Sutton and EastEnders' Charlie Clements.

Co-star Freema Agyeman will take on Corrie's Sue Cleaver as well as Lacey Turner and Kara Tointon from EastEnders for Most Popular Actress, which has been won by Billie Piper for the last two years.

Any Dream Will Do, Dancing on Ice, Strictly Come Dancing, Britain's Got Talent and The X Factor will battle for the new Best Talent Show gong.

ITV and BBC have each received 18 nominations for the awards, which are voted for by the public. The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall on October 31.

Host Trevor McDonald said: "It has been a controversial year for the TV industry which has rarely been out of the news, but the National Television Awards are a celebration of TV programming at its most popular. The variety of nominees this year shows the remarkable range and diversity of the programmes we all watch."
