Canada's Global TV station has announced it's Autumn programming schedule, boasting a total of seventeen new series. These include:
BLUE MURDER: Filmed in Toronto by producer Laszlo Barna (Da Vinci's Inquest), an hour-long drama about police who investigate high-profile and politically-sensitive crimes. Thirteen episodes begin in January.
BOB & MARGARET: Toronto-based Nelvana's animated sitcom has the British dentist and his wife moving to Canada for a fish-out-of-water twist in 22 new episodes.
BLACKFLY: A 13-part half-hour historical satire from Halifax's Salter Street Films. Created by and starring comic Ron James as an 18th century hero of sorts.
BIG SOUND: Ex-patriate comic-director David Steinberg executive produces and writes this new series about a Vancouver-based talent agency and an agent having a mid-life crisis. Real acts, from Barenaked Ladies to Bryan Adams, expected to make guest appearances as themselves, Larry Sanders-style.
POPSTARS: Based on a hit Australian concept, the docu-soap will trace the selection, creation and development of a new hit pop group. Thirteen episodes. There will also be a U.S. version of the concept, called Making the Band.
QUEEN OF SWORDS: A Canada-Spain co-production filmed in Spain and starring Tesie Santiago as a sort of female Zorro. Producers say it qualifies under the rules as Canadian content.
CODE NAME ETERNITY: Cameron Bancroft and Ingrid Kavelaars star in this romantic adventure about a woman and an alien visitor.
GENE RODDENBERRY'S ANDROMEDA: Kevin Sorbo stars in this F/X-filled sci-fi space adventure shot in Vancouver that mines the mind of the late Star Trek creator. From Fireworks Entertainment.
LARGO WINCH: No slot on the fall schedule yet, but this live-action adventure is based on the graphic novel of the same name.
BOSTON PUBLIC: The latest from David E. Kelley (The Practice) about the personal and professional lives of teachers in a suburban Boston high school. Lauren Davis, Steven Harper and Fyvush Finkel star.
DEADLINE: From Dick Wolf (Law & Order), Oliver Platt is an investigative journalist working for a New York newspaper. Bebe Neuwirth co-stars.
FREEDOM: An apocalyptic drama about four soldiers who aid underdogs in a militaristic future after the collapse of law and order. From producer Joel Silver (The Matrix).
DON'T ASK: The team responsible for That '70s Show and Third Rock From the Sun is behind this sitcom starring John Goodman as a gay dad and Anthony LaPaglia as his neurotic friend.
STEVEN WEBER PROJECT: Weber (Wings) plays a single guy cursed by a woman he spurned after a first date. Chris Elliott co-stars.
GILMORE GIRLS: Hour-long drama about a precocious 16-year-old New England girl and her single but hip mum who had her when she was only 16. Lauren Graham and Alexi Bledel star.
THE STREET: Shades of Traders in this import about high-rolling NASDAQ investors. Tom Everett Scott, Jennifer Connelly, Adam Scott and Christian Campbell star.
NIGHT VISIONS: An anthology series with shades of Hitchcock, Outer Limits and The Twilight Zone. Each week chilling tales emanate from the brain of a horror writer who is in a coma.
THAT'S LIFE: A 30-something single woman turns over a new leaf. Plenty of name stars including Ellen Burstyn, Paul Sorvino, Debi Mazar and Kevin Dillon.
WILL AND GRACE and JUST SHOOT ME: In a controversial swap, Global acquires these sitcoms with a proven track record on WIC stations, in exchange for CBS's 60 Minutes, which skews to viewers older than Global's 18-49 age demographic.
