BBC unveils multiplatform talent show

The BBC has unveiled plans to air a hybrid online and digital TV talent competition.
Upstaged will run for eight weeks and showcase members of the public - who will audition online - entertaining the nation from two glass boxes in Bristol's Millennium Square. An online vote will determine which of the two performers deserves to stay for another day.
The first five weeks will be streamed online and the latter three will air both online and on BBC Three.
"I want BBC Three to become known for being a multiplatform pioneer," said BBC Three controller Danny Cohen. "Upstaged will live and breathe primarily on the web. It's an exciting risk that I hope will stimulate more of these kinds of multiplatform and web-based shows for the BBC."
The programme will be made by Endemol's Initial West. Tim Hincks, Endemol UK's chief creative officer: "This is one of the most ambitious projects we've ever undertaken. It will start life as an exclusively online event and evolve into a simultaneous TV series, bringing together these different mediums in an exciting new way."
