Red Planet Pictures has signed top comedy writers Mark Gatiss and Julia Davies.
The pair, who wrote on League of Gentlemen and Nighty Night respectively, are working on the producer's first comedy show.
The firm was set up by Life on Mars co-creator Tony Jordan and has so far concentrated on drama. It appointed the BBC's Mary Downes to take it into factual last month.
Jordan explained: "As our drama slate is looking great, with several scripts currently with various broadcasters and with our new factual department developing a number of projects, we are continuing to expand into new areas.
"Having the opportunity to work with Mark and Julia means, for me, it seems only natural to expand our activities into comedy as well."
