Veteran TV weathergirl Trish Williamson has died in a car accident.

The 52-year-old was killed when her Ford Fiesta crashed into a field near Weybread on the Norfolk/Suffolk border.

No other vehicle was involved and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Williamson was one of the first weathergirls on TV-am in the '80s, alongside Wincey Willis and Ulrika Jonsson. She became an ITV weathergirl in the '90s and featured on Inside Out, London Tonight, BBC Look North and ITN news, as well as working as a producer and director.

The BBC described her as “an award-winning journalist” and said staff were “deeply saddened” by her death.

Producer Paul Woolwich said: “Trish was a fine filmmaker who was at the peak of her career and was adored by everyone. Our thoughts and prayers go to her two boys and her family.”
