BBC Four has commissioned an hour-long special looking at the life of comedian Tony Hancock.
Hancock & Joan is based upon the autobiography of Joan Le Mesuirer, the wife of Dad's Army actor John Le Mesurier. In the book, Joan Le Mesuirer tells of her passionate love affair with Hancock, who was her husband's best friend.
Ken Stott will play Hancock in the drama alongside Maxine Peake as Joan.
"It's a sign of the calibre of Ric Cottan's funny, moving, and powerful script that it has attracted Ken Stott and Maxine Peake, who we're delighted to welcome to BBC Four," said Ben Stephenson, head of BBC drama commissioning. "Hancock remains a much-loved national treasure and this is an extraordinary insight into the mind of a comic genius."
