Sky picks up UK version of Fox's 'Lyrics'

Sky One has commissioned a UK version of Fox's Don't Forget The Lyrics from RDF.

12 hour-long episodes of the singing contest - in which participants sing along with a live studio band and karaoke-style lyrics projected on a screen, and have to carry on singing after the music and words are taken away - will be broadcast early next year.

"The British public are fanatical about karaoke and game shows, so Don't Forget The Lyrics is the perfect format for Sky One and is bound to mirror its success in the US when it launches here next year," said Sky One, Two and Three director of programming Richard Woolfe. "The show complements our line-up of Sunday night family entertainment, sitting alongside established hits including Are You Smarter Than A 10-Year-Old? I’m thrilled to have won the rights to the show and to be partnering with RDF to produce the series."

Lyrics has performed well in a Thursday night slot for Fox, recently hitting a season high of 8.3m viewers.

RDF Television managing director Grant Mansfield said: "“I’m delighted that Don't Forget The Lyrics has found its UK home with Sky One just as Fox has confirmed its third cycle of the hit show in the US. We are very excited about bringing the first RDF USA original format to the UK with Sky."
