Fremantle plans online drama series

Fremantle Media is in talks to develop an online drama series, its director of operations and strategy has revealed.

Christian Schneider-Sickert said discussions aimed at developing a show for 2008 are currently taking place in the US.

He explained that he sees potential in interactive programming but warned it took effort.

"I think in 2008 we will see the emergence of real investment in online content," he explained. "But you need to have the right pieces in place for funding to be able to do something like this well.

"It is a myth that you put something online and it will be a big hit. You have to have partners and do things properly."

Schneider-Sickert added that Fremantle also hoped to grow its coverage of live events in the near future: "Live conferences haven't been one of the things we have been particularly good at, but over time it is something we want to build up.

"In the UK Grand Designs Live is currently licensed out but we may look to take this in-house down the line."
