Telegraph Media Group is to co-fund a documentary series on The History Channel.
A five-part series with the working title 50 Things Every Citizen Should Know About is being made with Flashback Television. It will air next year and be presented by Dan Snow.
Telegraph Media Group, which owns the Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph, will then get rights to air the show on its internet television service. It is the group's first move into major television productions.
History Channel UK managing director Geoff Metzger said: "Our two brands share a similar audience and the partnership will enable us to engage the nation in a lively debate about the most important moments in British history."
The series will feature 50 crucial events in British history and there will also be a debate about what those events should be.
