New Peter Kay series shelved after rows

Peter Kay’s new TV show has been shelved after he reportedly clashed with writer Craig Cash.

The comic had been lined up to play a bin man in comedy drama series Sunshine, but production was stopped following rows about the proposed budget.

The show, made by Cash’s production company Jellylegs Productions, had been due to air on ITV in the spring.

An insider told The Sun: “Sunshine is pretty much dead in the water - Peter isn’t doing it. Things were going well but when it came to discussing the budget things went a bit sour.

"People at the top of their game, like Peter, don’t come cheap so a show like Sunshine needed a big budget to make everyone happy.”

The programme, which Cash penned with Early Doors co-writer Phil Mealey, would have been Kay’s first series since 2004's Max And Paddy's Road To Nowhere.

An ITV spokesman said: “We were interested in the show but it isn’t happening anymore.”
