Billie Piper has admitted that she "turned into a gibbering wreck" when she met author Philip Pullman.

The actress was star-struck when she met Pullman to discuss her role as Sally Lockhart in a BBC TV adaptation of his novel The Shadow In The North.

"I met him a few times but was really star-struck and forgot everything I wanted to ask him and just turned into a gibbering wreck," Billie told Hot TV magazine.

"I was just staring at him - he's huge, but very softly spoken. I just wanted to hold his head, as there's so much going on in there!"

The Shadow In The North airs at 8.55pm tomorrow night on BBC One.
