Sirius acquires HSE channel

Published Thursday, Aug 1 2002, 17:56 BST | By Neil Wilkes
Shopping broadcaster Sirius has purchased HSE's broadcast channel, it was announced today.

"TV Shopping is the fastest growing part of British broadcasting and with this acquisition Sirius will strengthen its position as a leading player in this market," said Sirius CEO Ed Hall. "With shopping channels TV Warehouse and The Shopping Genie already on air and profitable, the acquisition of this broadcast channel will allow us to expand and offer a greater breadth of programming to our customers and viewers. The broadcast channel now has solid financial backing and a promising viable commercial future."

HSE went into administration last month; the deal with Sirius is for the broadcast channel only. The studio complex is not part of the acquisition, meaning broadcast will now switch to Chalfont Grove in Buckinghamshire.

Sirius currently operates three channels on digital satellite and cable -- The Shopping Genie, TV Warehouse and SMS chat channel TXT ME.
