Philip Glenister in 'Life on Mars'
The as-yet-untitled show will be set in modern-day London.
Glenister will play an American who has to deal with vampires, demons and zombies. He passes on the lifestyle to his teenage godson, played by Christian Cooke (Echo Beach), who is found to be the last descendant of the Van Helsing line.
Among their supernatural opponents will be a particularly nasty vampire acted by Mackenzie Crook (The Office).
The six-episode series, produced by Shine, is currently being shot in London.
Producer Johnny Capps said: "We're excited for the opportunity to be working with Laura Mackie (director of drama) and her drama team and to be making a primetime series for ITV, our first here at Shine."
Julian Murphy (As If) is also producing and Dean Hargrove is executive producing for Sony Pictures. It has been written, inspired by the Bram Stoker classic, by Peter Tabern, Howard Overman and Lucy Watkins.
