
Some 6.5m viewers joined Bruce Forsyth for his 80th birthday celebrations on BBC One last night.
Happy Birthday Brucie! attracted 26% of the television audience between 6.35pm and 8pm with a look back at his career and visits from special guests. It was well above the slot's 4.8m (22.6%) average for last year.
Despite the strong showing ITV1 drew more with 8.2m (34%) for Dancing On Ice from 6.24-7.30pm. That was followed by 7.6m (29%) for Wild at Heart and 8.1m (30%) watching Dancing On Ice: The Skate Off at 8.30pm. At 9pm the first of a new run of Lewis reached 8m (35%).
BBC One trailed ITV1 all night, with 6.3m (23%) watching Lark Rise to Candleford from 8pm and The Last Enemy drawing 2.5m (10%) at 9pm.
Tropic of Capricorn drew 2.6m (10%) for BBC Two at 8pm, then Around the World in 80 Gardens made 2.3m (9%) at 9pm. On Channel 4, Wife Swap, at 8pm, attracted 2.1m (8%) and movie premiere Collateral took 1.8m (8%) at 9pm.
For Five, Ice Road Truckers earned a 1.4m (5%) audience at 8pm then film Executive Decision took 1.1m (5.4%) from 9pm.
The multichannel hits for the day included the Carling Cup final, making 2.3m (18.1% of multichannel homes) for Sky Sports 1 at 2.30pm, and Lost, which drew 1.1m (4.8%) to Sky One at 9pm.
