The actor and a mate will travel the UK to find a pub to run and find the perfect recipe for their beer. Once they take a lease they will have six months to get it running successfully.
Morrissey wants to create an "everyman's ale" that will attract all drinkers - not just "men with sparrows in their beard".
Three hour-long episodes of Neil Morrissey's Perfect Pint are being lined up for a 10pm weeknights slot later this year.
Zoe Collins, who will executive produce for Fresh One, which is partnering with TalkbackThames on the show, said: "I can think of few programme-makers who wouldn't jump at the chance to make a TV series about beer and with Neil Morrissey, what a joyous prospect is that."
