ITV1 has lined up comedy series Mumbai Calling for primetime in the autumn.
Created by Allan McKeown (Auf Wiedersehen Pet, Birds of a Feather) and set in an Indian call centre, the show will star Sanjeev Bhaskar (The Kumars at No 42).
A one-off episode of the show, set in Mumbai's Teknobable call centre, was aired in the spring last year. It is filmed entirely on location in India with a large local cast.
"We were able to work to a scale that would have been impossible in the UK,” said McKeown, who has been producing in the US and working on stage productions for about ten years.
"We didn’t forget that the most important element is the script and 12 writers contributed to the final scripts. We think the shows are funny, very funny."
The original episode was written by Bhaskar with Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran.
