Cops With Cameras made a muted return to ITV1 last night with 3.3m viewers.

The first in a new series gained a 14% share of viewers over the hour from 9pm. The slot average is 4.4m (18.8%) and last year's run earned 4.3m (19%) at the earlier time of 8pm.

It was beaten by Hotel Babylon on BBC One which attracted 5m (21.2%) to match last year's average for the slot. Five followed ITV1 at 9pm thanks to CSI: Crime Scene Investigation's 3m (12.7%) audience.

The Poles are Coming!, part of BBC Two's White season, earned a decent 2.6m viewers (11.1%), while Channel 4 performed poorly at 9pm, with The Woman Who Stops Traffic ending its run on just 718,000 (3%).

Channel 4 was beaten by ITV2, where the UK debut of Bionic Woman set the channel's record audience at 2.2m (9.2%).
