BBC puts Barrymore book on hold

The BBC has decided to "postpone indefinitely" publication of Michael Barrymore's autobiography.
The corporation has come under fire from several quarters over the deal -- signed two years ago, seven months before the death of Stuart Lubbock at the entertainer's Essex mansion -- most prominently the Lubbock's family solicitor, who called for the BBC to scrap the book.
After saying this morning that it would "review" the situation, BBC Worldwide has now confirmed that the book, titled 'Running Away from Myself', would be scrapped for the time being.
"[We] will postpone indefinitely publication
of Michael Barrymore's autobiography," said a statement. "The decision was taken this morning by BBC Worldwide's Chief Executive Rupert Gavin, who is on business in the US, in consultation with BBC Director General Greg Dyke.
"BBC Worldwide acquired the rights to the book two years ago as part of their strand of publishing celebrity autobiographies. An advance was paid to Mr Barrymore at the time.
"A decision about whether the book will ever be published will be taken at a stage when reported legal issues, including those surrounding the inquest in to the death of Stuart Lubbock, have been clarified."
