Footballer Ferdinand plans 'Rap Idol'

Manchester United footballer Rio Ferdinand has started planning a hip-hop version of Pop Idol.

The England soccer star has signed up Jimmy Carr, Naomi Campbell, Katie Price, Chris Moyles, Amir Khan, John Barnes and Shane Richie to appear on the show, reports The Sun.

Ferdinand's show, which is being organised by his TV company Next Generation TV & Film, will function as a fundraiser for anti-crime charities.

"Jimmy Carr performing Tupac Shakur tracks will be appointment viewing," said a source. "All the stars are willing to give it their all to raise awareness of the growing gun crime problem in the UK.

"Rio and his TV firm held a brainstorming session last year for new telly projects. They had been trying to organise a footballers’ rap show for a while but the hectic fixture list held them back.

"They have had a great response from famous faces willing to get involved and all systems are go for a show later this year."

The sports ace has also apparently asked producer T2, Mark Ronson, teammate Wayne Rooney and Amy Winehouse to participate on the show as judges.
