Turner to launch new lads channel

Turner is to launch a new 'lads' channel on digital satellite and cable next month.
CNX will make its debut on October 14 for subscribers of NTL, Telewest and Sky Digital, broadcasting 24 hours a day. Insiders say the station will utilise material from brands such as Loaded and other titles from IPC media, its sister publishing company.
"We’ve spent a lot of time looking at how we can raise the content threshold. We’re in it for the long haul and it’s just a question of getting the brand right," one told Media Week.
"Men are horrifically underserved on TV and everything always falls to the lowest common denominator. Turner wants programmes that blokes are going to want to watch for more than five minutes. If IPC came up with a good idea then we’d get it on air, but at the moment we’re working on creating our own brands."
An IPC spokesman confirmed that they were in discussion with Turner about content for CNX. "We’re talking to Turner about possible projects on CNX and we’re definitely looking to partner with them," he said.
Entertainment programming on the channel will include martial arts, sport, music, animation and thrillers, as well as an original UK-based series.
