A Spooks spinoff called Code 9 is heading to BBC Three.

The new spy drama is currently being shot in Bradford and is scheduled to hit screens later this year.

It opens in 2013, when London has been evacuated in the wake of a nuclear bomb. Thames House has gone and MI5 is forced to set up offices across the UK in an attempt to help Britain fend off attacks.

The series focuses on the six spooks recruited to help make up the new Field Office 19.

The team is led by experienced spook Hannah (Joanne Froggatt, Life On Mars) and consists of mathematician and problem solver Charlie (Liam Boyle, Drop Dead Gorgeous), ex-police officer Rachel (Ruta Gedmintas, The Tudors) and Jez (Heshima Thompson, Prime Suspect: The Final Act) a former criminal gone straight.

The new office is rounded out by Vik (Christopher Simpson,
Brick Lane), junior doctor Rob (Andrew Knott, The History Boys) and Kylie (Georgia Moffett, Doctor Who), a psychology student who has just returned from her gap year.

The show is made by Kudos Film & Television, the team behind Spooks and Life On Mars.

The spinoff, originally titled Rogue Spooks, was first announced in 2006.
