Speaking at last night's premiere for the fourth series, stars David Tennant and Catherine Tate revealed that their characters agree to remain friends.
Tennant said he was happy to do without a romantic connection this time around, telling reporters: "It's sort of the next thing to do. We've had a love story, we've had an unrequited love story, why not have this ... they do love each other, just platonically."
Tate added: "You see the thing with Donna is she knows he's an alien, she knows he's got two hearts - she doesn't want to know what else he's doubled up on. I think it's a fair point - these other girls don't seem to care."
The new series begins on Saturday at 6:20pm on BBC One.
