The actress will explore the life of her father James, nicknamed Jimmy The Dip, who was a friend of the notorious London gangsters the Kray twins.
James served time in prison before Patsy was born and later went on to become an antiques dealer.
A BBC spokeswoman said: "Apprehensively, Patsy embarks on an investigation into her father’s murky past, wanting to understand the roots of his criminality and to discover how far back ‘the family trade’ goes."
Jerry Springer, Boris Johnson, Esther Rantzen, Jodie Kidd and Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen will all take part in the new series, which airs this summer on BBC One.
