The writer of new BBC Three sketch show Scallywagga has high hopes that it will be a success.

Stuart Kenworthy won last year's Best Comedy gong at the North West Royal Television Society Awards for the programme's pilot Spacehopper.

The 42-year-old said he was relieved to have finished six months of shooting for the project, his first full-length comedy series.

He told the Lancashire Evening Post: "With these things often there are problems with filming and some scenes have bits missing and good bits get taken out but this has gone really well.

"It is a sort of mixture between some of the slapstick old favourites with punch lines, and character comedy. I enjoy a lot of modern comedy but they often have a funny idea without any actual jokes."

Kenworthy's previous writing credits include Green Wing, Smack The Pony, Man Stroke Woman and Harry Hill's TV Burp.

Scallywagga starts April 29 at 10.30pm on BBC Three.
