The 17-year-old Nancy hopeful suffered from a bad case of acne in her early teens and feared that she would never achieve her dream of becoming a star.
"She became very self-conscious. She always had so much talent at music and drama," a friend told The Mirror. "Everybody knew she was destined to be a star. But it was never going to happen while she had such bad skin."
After consulting specialist dermatologists, Niamh was put on strong antibiotics and cream and her skin gradually improved.
Perry will try to secure her I'd Do Anything place for another week in tonight's episode of the talent series. Another contestant will be eliminated in the results show tomorrow.
