Forsyth, who won the Academy Fellowship at last night's BAFTAs, said he'd "seen enough of reality shows" and proposed there should be more "professionals" on the nation's screens.
He said: "I think there’s room for young performers. I'd like to see more professionals from my side of the business, light entertainment.
"I’d like to see some young light entertainment performers get up and perform. Personally I've seen enough of reality shows.
"I like to see young performers work and make us applaud them and make us laugh at them. There’ll always be room for that in our country."
The Strictly Come Dancing host also suggested that more awards shows should recognise the work of comedians.
"With the Hollywood Oscars, you never get an Oscar going to a brilliant comedy performance," said Forsyth. "Why not? Can anyone answer that?
"Maybe more comedic performances and artists should be honoured in this way."
