Mitchell explains 'Peep Show' success
David Mitchell has said that Peep Show's success is down to audiences identifying with the show's lead characters.

Speaking after winning the prize for best sitcom at the BAFTA Television Awards, he said: "You try and make it funny in a way that all sitcoms are funny, which is you can identify with the characters and care about what's going to happen to them.

"At the same time you sort of know that nothing really good is ever going to happen to them and they're going to remain trapped in their horrible situation."

Mitchell and comedy partner Robert Webb won a BAFTA last year for their BBC sketch show That Mitchell and Webb Look and the pair struggled to pick which one meant more to them.

Mitchell explained: "It's very nice to have won for both. The difference is in our sketch show that Rob and I write a lot of it as well as perform it."

However, Webb joked: "The BAFTA [for the sketch show] you get to take home - so that one."
