Oliver's C4 series draws almost 5m

By
Almost 5 million viewers tuned in for Jamie Oliver's new Channel 4 series last night, early ratings figures show.

Jamie's Kitchen, a five-part series following Oliver as he attempts to turn 15 ordinary people into professional chefs, averaged 4.8m viewers and a 21% share over an hour starting at 9pm.

Elsewhere, Fame Academy is continuing to suffer from poor scheduling in the 7pm slot against ITV's Emmerdale. Last night's show, which saw Katie, Malachi and Marli put on probabation, attracted just 3.5m viewers.
