Anne Robinson's guest stint as host of Have I Got News For You last night drew the programme's second highest viewing figures, according to early overnights.
The satirical quiz show averaged 7.3m viewers and a 27% share over half an hour beginning at 21.30. The most the programme has ever received before was 7.6m, the week immediately after press revelations about former host Angus Deayton's private life.
"Last night we recorded our second highest ratings with Anne Robinson presenting. We had 27% of the audience share," said a BBC spokesman. "Anne Robinson is a very popular presenter and people were intrigued to see how she would deal with Ian Hislop and Paul Merton."
Meanwhile, ratings for Fame Academy rose again, reaching a new high of 6m, up from the 5.9m average last week.
