Channel 4 to launch new station

Channel 4 is to launch a 'C4 Extra' station across all digital platforms, reports the Media Guardian today.
The focus of the new channel, which would be free-to-view, has yet to be decided, but the favoured option is said to be a high-brow factual channel, with programmes such as Cutting Edge and Faking It.
Another option on the table is an 'E4 light' station with drama, music and soaps.
The network is launching C4 Extra to avoid being left out on Freeview, the new digital terrestrial operator, where it broadcasts just one station (Channel 4). By comparison, the BBC has seven TV channels, ITV three, and Sky three.
Meanwhile, C4 denied reports that it was planning on launching a history channel to compete with UK History and The History Channel. "I can categorically state that we are not planning to launch a history channel," a spokesman said.
