Decent crowd tune in for 'Filth'

Julie Walters

BBC Two's one-off drama Filth: The Mary Whitehouse Story attracted a decent audience on Wednesday despite strong competition.

Some 2.8m - or 11.6% of the viewing audience - tuned in to the show, which starred Julie Walters as the staunch media campaigner, from 9pm.

ITV1 led the primetime ratings though, again thanks to Britain's Got Talent, which drew 9.3m (35.9%) for 90 minutes from 8.30pm.

BBC One's coverage of England's football friendly against the USA, starting at 8pm, also gained a reasonable crowd of 7.1m (27.9%).

The first of a four-part run of River Cottage attracted 1.8m (7.1%) to Channel 4 from 9pm, while none of Five's primetime shows managed to reach 1m.
