It took a 5.03% share of multichannel homes at 9pm and dwarfed the channel's 290,000 (1.46%) average in the slot last year. Lost's share of satellite homes was a strong 11.38%.
It was down on the first episode of the third series which attracted 1.4m, however, despite moving from 10pm to 9pm.
Lost beat the multichannel competition yesterday, though ITV2's Supernatural made 598,000 (2.74%) at 9.15pm.
On terrestrial meanwhile, Saturday's England versus Wales Six Nations rugby clash drew a peak of 8.2m viewers for BBC One. It earned a 6.5m average and 35% share from 4.10-6.35pm.
The BBC said its peak was higher than the largest rating for last year's Six Nations, which was 8m during Ireland against England.
