Making a splash

Tommy Cannon was first to be fired from this year’s show, which was a bit of a shame. I know the editing taints our view of the celebs but I found it very touching to see how strong the friendship between the double act was and how Tommy was caring and protective of his long time partner.
He seemed like a really nice bloke and I’m fairly sure that if were voting to evict rather than to save our favourites, Tommy may have lasted much longer. The voting system was always going to work against the straight man in this situation since the Cannon and Ball vote would inevitably be split.
Jilly’s exit wasn’t too much of a surprise though it’s a shame to see her partnership with the glorious Thatch come to an end. Jilly claimed that the camp was bursting with personalities but for me that isn’t coming across on screen as much as in previous series. Some of this lot just haven’t brought enough to the party.
I had high hopes for David Dickinson but he remains a grumpy trousers and to be honest Bobby has hardly been a laugh a minute either. The campers really can’t be that hungry if they are prepared to entrust their precious food to this culinary inept pair.
Jungle Jail was a marvellous idea and the only way to get Jilly and Carol to feel any remorse for their microphone transgressions. I felt especially sorry for Jenny who not only had to endure the sparse conditions but also put up with Sheree, a woman who at times seems to be scared of her own shadow.
We’ve seen far more of Anthony in the last few days and I’d be lying if I said the word wimp hadn’t come to mind. Carol showed him up on that sawing task and he came across as a complete wuss when taking on what looked to be by far the easiest bush tucker trial. The most he seems to have suffered is through a self inflicted hangover. Indiana Jones he ain’t.
I’ll admit to being sceptical as to just how dangerous some of the trials are, giving that programme makers have a responsibility for the heath and safety of the participants so it was a bit shocking that what seemed a fair straightforward trial resulted in Kimberley’s hospitalisation.
The former soap star hit the water hard, possibly the only noticeable impact she’s had on the series so far. Let’s hope she gets well soon but I can’t say I’ll miss her in the camp. For an actress she seems to have a remarkably inexpressive face, even when in agony. Odd that.
As for who I want to win, at the moment I’m torn between Sid and Jimmy who both seem to able to retain their dignity and sense of humour while all around them are having a moan. An Osmond victory would be awesome.
