Catalina to face 'crocodile pit'
Published Tuesday, Apr 29 2003, 01:03 BST | By Neil Wilkes
Viewers voted for Catalina Guirado to face the second bush tucker trial in I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here! this evening.
The model-turned-presenter will partake in the trial, called 'crocodile pit', in several hours time. In order to win meals for the group, she will have to enter a swamp filled with crocodiles to retrieve strategically placed stars (each star representing one meal).
When a contestant in the US version of the series underwent a similar trial earlier in the year, the celebrity group complained to producers that they had taken the danger element of the show too far. The contestant in question had feared for her safety after being told there was only one ranger on hand with a gun to shoot the crocodiles if they went for her.
Catalina didn't seem to take the news of her fate too well, immediately questioning why the public had voted for her. "You bastards," she exclaimed. "What did I do wrong?"
The group gathered round to comfort and reassure her, but she remained defiant that she was "hated". After smoking a quick cigarette, however, she began to calm down.
Catlina follows in the footsteps of John Fashanu by facing the bushtucker trial. Fashanu endured the first trial -- which involved pouring insects and other animals down his trousers -- on day one after being nominated by the majority of his fellow contestants.
He earnt a respectable six meals for the group by allowing worms, beetles and cockroaches to crawl around his nether regions. He only decided to stop when faced with three bush rats.
