Around 11 million viewers tuned in to see the celebrities enter their jungle home in I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here! last night.
Early ratings figures show than an average of 10.0 million viewers -- some 41.1% of the TV audience -- watched the first episode, screened between 9pm and 10.30pm. It peaked with an audience of 10.8 million, a 45.9% share.
ITV were unsurprisingly happy with the figures, which were 4 million up on the first episode of the first series last year.
"I'm A Celebrity is a fantastic television event and we're delighted that the new series got off to such a great start," a spokeswoman said today.
ITV2's companion series, I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here Now! also began well with a 1.0 million average (13.4% share) in the hour immediately after the ITV1 show ended.
