The comedian was given the boot from the Costa Rican jungle after losing the public vote to wrestler Torrie Wilson. Supermodel Janice Dickinson and Shelton's comedy partner Frances Callier had been saved earlier in the programme.
Speaking before her elimination, Shelton said: "This is the absolute hardest thing I've ever done. I think I have felt almost every emotion every day."
The boys' team had previously won immunity from the public vote and had chosen politician's wife Patti Blagojevich to stay.
Last night's episode also saw the camp members divided over whether reality stars Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt should be allowed to return to the jungle after walking out on Monday.
The Hills stars had begged to re-enter the jungle after admitting it was wrong to leave, but the show rules mean that it is up to the remaining campers to decide whether they can. The final decision will be revealed on Monday night's episode.
