The Made in Chelsea star became the latest contestant to leave the jungle after receiving the fewest public votes, finishing fifth in the competition overall.
He told Ant & Dec after his exit: "In the beginning, because I'm so used to having everything my own way, everyone was getting on my nerves. When I'm hungry, that's when I'm at my worst.
"I definitely became calmer and more relaxed about things. I used to think if you become stressed, things would get done quicker.
"In the first couple of days, the enormity of how long you're going to be here really sets in. That feels very daunting. There's nowhere to run. But you learn. By the time I got to Croc Creek, I settled in."
Hugo added that David Haye had given him a "sense of competition" that he didn't have prior to entering the jungle.
He also backed Ashley Roberts or Eric Bristow - who he described as the one person who kept him calm - to win the show.
Hugo's exit leaves just four celebrities in the jungle - Eric, Ashley, David and EastEnders star Charlie Brooks.
I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! continues tomorrow at 8.30pm on ITV1.
