'I'm A Celeb': Most squeamish contestants

I'm A Celebrity... is not for the faint-hearted but some contestants seem clueless about the horrors awaiting them in their new home. While some wannabe-Tarzans have been munching grubs for months to prepare, others find it all too much and fill the jungle air with their terrified cries. As the next crop of celebs venture into the fright-filled unknown, DS looks back at those past victims who are clearly not familiar with the term "putting on a brave face".

1. Natalie Appleton
The ex-All Saint struggled from the get-go in series four, begging to leave on day two after moaning that she wasn't "mentally prepared". The helicopter trip proved traumatic before she even reached camp and she had to be given oxygen after almost fainting during a tightrope-walking task. Other antics included waking her companions by screaming that there was a spider in her bed and pulling out of another trial because she didn't want to lose her lunch on national TV. Her failure to collect more than a smattering of meals during four trials finally proved too much and she stomped out of the jungle after sadisitic viewers voted her to endure a fifth.

2. Scott Henshall
Birthday boy Scott Henshall shocked hosts Ant and Dec when he bailed out of his 'jungle boogie' task after gaining a measly one star. "I don't dance and I hate bugs!" he screamed, upon learning that he had to don a pair of plastic trousers and dance to five songs while showered with creepy-crawlies. He quit after flopping around to just one track, prompting a gob-smacked Dec to ask him if he was joking. The fashion designer admitted that he felt "pathetic" when he returned to camp, but fared little better in underwater trial 'What Lurks Beneath', where he again surrendered after bagging only one meal.

3. Paul Burrell
After screeching his way through the 'Hell Holes' challenge, which saw him stick his arm into holes filled with unmentionables, the former royal butler put on another bravado performance in the 'Temple of Doom'. True to form, he spent most of his time yelping and sobbing, whining: "Oh sh*t, oh my God! What's that?" as soon as he entered the pitch-black tomb. He cried out every few seconds as he fumbled for stars amid rats, cockroaches and spiders, screaming: "God, this is sadistic" as a shower of nasties rained on his head. He eventually managed to secure a respectable six out of eleven stars to swap for meals for his hungry companions.

4. Brian Harvey
East 17 star Brian Harvey quit the show on day six after struggling to adapt to his new jungle abode. After bravely deciding to stay when his grandmother died, he came a cropper during his 'House of Pies' challenge later in the week. Viewers voted for him to chomp his way through bug-filled pies after hearing him moaning about the diet in camp, but he bailed out halfway through when faced with grabbing a star from a pie of green ants with his teeth. He told Ant and Dec that he had done his best, but he "had to get out, mate", finally returning to camp with a paltry two meals. He finally stalked out after rowing with Janet Street Porter after he farted while she was cooking dinner, later claiming the camp was "torture" and he was "sick of being hungry".

5. Dean Gaffney
Dean Gaffney's cries of terror filled the jungle for a second time as he endured the 'Temple of Doom' made famous by Paul Burrell two years before. He had Ant and Dec howling with laughter as he screeched and gagged his way through the cave accompanied by cockroaches, rats, spiders and gunk. The ex-EastEnder screamed: "Slimy, slimy, horrible, horrible, slimy slime," as he jerked around the cave in fright, before retching over a well filled with frogs and toads. Despite admitting to being "very squeamish", he managed to scoop five stars and later boasted that he went into the jungle "a boy and came out a man".
