The X Factor's 'Guilty Pleasures' live show averaged 8.23m (33.8%) from 8pm and added only 190k on timeshift.
Strictly Come Dancing won the night with a massive 10.33m (43.9%) for its Wembley show in BBC One's 6.30pm slot, holding on to all of last week's fanbase.
Then at 8pm, Merlin logged a solid 5.5m (22.4%) at 8pm for 'A Lesson in Vengeance'.
However, BBC One lost steam as the night progressed as Casualty (3.57m/14.9%) and Live at the Apollo (2.41m/10.6%) struggled against The X Factor.
Meanwhile at the mercy of Strictly, ITV's Take Me Out attracted 2.99m (12.6%) and 136k on +1.
Elsewhere, Dads' Army was BBC Two's top broadcast with 2.16m (8.8%), while Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (935k/4%) and CSI: Miami (1.11m/6.3%) topped lacklustre nights for Channel 4 and Channel 5, with the Transformers movie adding 301k on +1.
With the aid of I'm a Celebrity, ITV seized back control of primetime with a share of 26.2% (+1: 0.9%), ahead of BBC One's 25%. BBC Two claimed third place with 5.9%, followed by Channel 4's 3.5% (+1: 0.9%) and Channel 5's 3.1% (+1: 0.3%).
I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here Now rallied to an impressive 1.08m (6.2%) on ITV2 and had 164k on +1, but fellow reality show spinoff The Xtra Factor could only muster 274k (1.2%) in its 9.20pm slot on the channel.
