Dancing On Ice pro Nina Ulanova has defended her celebrity partner Steven Arnold's workrate on the programme.

Arnold was criticised on last night's show for sleeping through an alarm and missing a training session, but the Russian skater insisted that the ex-Coronation Street actor never lacked commitment.

"He is a such a hardworker," she told This Morning. "The last two weeks he has really been working hard and he was doing five or six hours every day."

The former soap actor, who was voted off the programme last night, admitted that he made a mistake in missing the practice session.

"I don’t think it did me any favours, I did sleep in," he said. "But I worked so hard for the two weeks after that, skating five or six hours every day. I tried to make up for it, but it was a mistake to sleep in."

He added: "I've really enjoyed the show. I’m not the best, I'm not the most natural. I never expected to do anything like this and I've enjoyed it so much."
